There is finally women's Viagra ? Addyi is fairly new to the market, and it's been a long time coming. This somewhat controversial medication was initially developed by the German pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim as an antidepressant, however it failed to get approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The rights of the medication were then taken over by a small pharmaceutical company called Sprout in 2010, who submitted further applications for approval.
During clinical trials it was discovered that the medication seemed to improve sexual dysfunction in women, which encouraged Sprout to apply for the medication to be licensed for the treatment of such, and after further clinical trials it was approved in 2015. There was also another unexpected finding during the trials; women who were taking Addyi lost significantly more weight than those in the placebo group, despite this not being a factor of the trial in any way.
The women were not instructed to change their diet or exercise habits, they were not selected on the basis of their weight, and they were not told that their weight would be measured or monitored. Addyi tablets are currently only licensed in the US, however it is possible buy Addyi online in the EU from our dedicated pharmacy.
Addyi is licensed for the treatment of hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) which is the most common sexual dysfunction diagnosis for women globally. Studies show that this loss of libido is natural with age, but this medication treats those who experience this condition at a younger age. HSDD, also known as female sexual interest/arousal disorder (FSIAD) is not simply having low sex drive or libido, but rather it is characterised by deficiency or complete absence of sexual desire or fantasies which causes significant distress and/or interpersonal problems.
Some studies show us that more women that thought may suffer from a sexual disorder. Most women will feel like they have low sex drive at various points in their lives. The female reproductive system is different to the male reproductive system in terms of hormones and the cyclical nature of menstruation. Oestrogen increases libido while progesterone tends to decrease sex drive, so most women's sexual interest will increase and decrease throughout the month correlating with the fluctuation in hormone levels. Additionally, sexual desire naturally decreases as women age, particularly after the menopause. These fluctuations are normal and are not characteristic of HSDD.
Women with HSDD typically experience no sexual pleasure or stimulation 75-100% of the time when sexually active. HSDD is associated with low emotional and physical satisfaction as well as low mood, so the disorder can severely impact a woman's quality of life. The disorder can be general or situational as well as lifelong or acquired. General HSDD means that the deficit in sexual desire or arousal is not specific to a person or situation and just applies all the time, whereas situational HSDD is characterised by low libido with a person or certain environments.
Lifelong HSDD is fairly self-explanatory; it means the disorder has always been present. Acquired HSDD however means that the disorder started at a later point in life, and it could have developed in response to a traumatic event. Lifelong general HDSS is a somewhat controversial diagnosis with some women feeling shamed for not experiencing feelings of sexual desire. There are also varying levels of desire across the globe with no amount that could be considered 'normal'. Therefore, the diagnostic criteria require significant distress and interpersonal issues in conjunction with the physical symptoms.
There are also men and women who have no sexual desire at all and do not consider it a disorder, but instead identify as asexual. People who are asexual do not experience significant distress and they still find happiness and emotional and physical satisfaction with intimacy consisting of closeness, cuddling in bed or on the sofa, and depending on the individual, kissing. If you are experiencing the symptoms of HSDD and it is affecting your quality of life and you want to find an effective treatment option, you can buy Addyi online from our EU based pharmacy at affordable prices.
The Addyi mechanism of action does not share any similarities with the typical male sexual dysfunction medications, which target the cardiovascular system to relax smooth muscle and increase blood flow. Addyi tablets target the serotonergic, dopaminergic, and noradrenergic neuronal pathways in the brain which produce neurotransmitters which regulate reward processing activity, feelings of happiness, and motivation. The medication is both an agonist and an antagonist for serotonin receptors, with the 5-HT1A receptor increasing the production of serotonin and 5-HT2A receptor inhibiting serotonin production.
Addyi binds to each receptor equally, however there are factors which cause it to have a higher affinity to the 5-HT2A receptor meaning that serotonin is down regulated. It is unclear exactly how this occurs but there are theories which hypothesise that the effects exerted on the dopamine D4 receptor modulate the affinity to the serotonin receptors. Serotonin inhibits sexual desire and dopamine, and noradrenaline increases it.
Evidence for the inhibitory properties of serotonin can be seen in the decreased libido side effects of medications which increase the levels of serotonin, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) which are a class of antidepressant medications. People with HSDD are believed to have an imbalance of these neurotransmitters, and this medication helps to balance the chemistry in these neuronal pathways. Addyi effectiveness as well as the side effects will vary from person to person, and we will explain this in more detail shortly.
The typical Addyi dosage is 100 mg however this can be altered, if necessary, for example a lower dose may be indicated if you are particularly sensitive to medications, or you have a condition which increases the risk of experiencing adverse effects. The Addyi dosage instructions are another factor which differs from male sexual dysfunction medication, which is taken around 30 minutes before wanting to have sex. Addyi pills must be taken every day because of the mechanism of action.
As the medication targets the neuronal pathways that we explained earlier, taking it intermittently or abruptly stopping it after several weeks or months of treatment will cause major fluctuations in the levels of neurotransmitters, which would severely impact emotions, and the chemical imbalance which was the initial problem will return. The medication should be taken at night because it has sedative properties.
If you forget to take your usual dose you should not take an additional dose to make up for the missed one as this can be dangerous. If you remember within a couple of hours of the usual time, it is safe to take it and then carry on as normal the following nights. The Addyi benefits can take up to 4 weeks to be felt, however you should discontinue treatment if you do not experience any improvement after 8 weeks.
As Addyi tablets are taken on a daily basis, the levels will remain consistent and exert their effects continuously. The effects are slow to build up because of the neuronal pathways and neurotransmitters being targeted, but this slow and steady mechanism of action means that the benefits will be constant. Unlike male sexual dysfunction medication which requires men to take it as and when they want to have sex, Addyi allows women to be spontaneous which most people find advantageous as planning when to have sex can really take the passion out.
Before you buy Addyi it is important to be aware of any potential side effects. Side effects don't affect everyone and those that do experience them find they are mild to moderate and go away on their own after a short period of time. Here are some of the Addyi side effects that affect more than 1 in 100 people:
Most women do not experience serious side effects, however in rare cases, syncope (fainting) does occur, so if you are prone to fainting or have low blood pressure you should take extra care while using this medication. This is not an exhaustive list and if you are worried about potential Addyi side effects then you should seek professional medical advice.
The active ingredient for this medication, Flibanserin, has been tested thoroughly and is known to be safe treatment for women. Before you buy Addyi there are some interactions as well as the side effects previously mentioned that you should be aware of. One reason this medication is seen as controversial is due to the potential side effects mentioned above and the benefits to risk ratio, as both side effects and interactions can vary substantially.
Addyi and alcohol do not mix. Much more so than other medications. Drinking alcohol while taking Addyi can cause your blood pressure to drop too low resulting in loss of consciousness. If you are going to drink, you should have a maximum of 2 glasses of wine (or equivalent) and wait for a minimum of 2 hours before taking your usual dose. If you drink more than this, then you should skip that dose for the night entirely.
Addyi has shown to cause a significant amount of weight loss during clinical trials. The mechanism of action for this process is not clear, but there are some theories suggested by scientists which could help explain the effects. Firstly, there is no correlation between nausea and weigh loss. So those who felt sick while taking the medication did not lose more weight than those who did not feel sick.
Researchers initially thought the medication would cause weight gain when looking at the effects of another medication. Lorcaserin is a 5-HT2C receptor agonist which has been approved by the FDA as a weight loss medication, and Addyi is a 5-HT2C antagonist, which means it inhibits that receptor rather than stimulates it. Seeing as this is not the case, it is highly unlikely that serotonin is responsible for the weight loss, especially when linked with evidence of serotonin related weight gain as seen in other medications. There is also the hypothesis that the stimulation of dopamine receptors plays a part in the mechanism of action, however further clinical trials are required to investigate this further.
What is clear though, is that the weight loss effects are not a placebo. One clinical trial studied the effects of a weight loss drug and participants who took part were obese (obese people lose weight faster), they were prescribed the medication being trialled, they followed a reduced and healthier diet, they had an exercise programme to adhere to, and they were aware of what was expected in terms of results. The Addyi trial was the complete opposite. There was just no indication of weight loss, not to the participants or the scientists, so they weren't even subconsciously aware or trying to lose weight.
There are not many female sexual dysfunction medications on the market at all, but there is one Addyi alternative. Vyleesi is different in the sense that it is taken as-and-when rather than every day and it doesn't interact with alcohol. There are some less desirable differences however, such as having to be administered by injection, a maximum monthly dose of 8 times, and the risk of hyper pigmentation (darkening of the skin) which can become permanent.
With nearly 90% of the British public ordering products online, it's no surprise to see the pharmaceutical market receive a boom in popularity. Medications for the treatment of female sexual dysfunction are long overdue and the FDA was under substantial pressure from advocacy groups, most notably Even the Score, to develop and produce treatment options for women as there are so many options for men.
Many women have stated that they feel let down and unseen by the pharmaceutical industry in the context of sexual health. Not only do women have the burden of contraception, of which many disrupt normal levels of hormones, but they do not have options when it comes to sexual dysfunction. Thankfully, now more people are ordering their medications online because they know this is where you can find the best medications at the best prices.
